OBJECTIVES
At completion of this program, the participant should be
able to:
1. Discuss the fundamentals of ultrasound physics/instrumentation.
2. Explain the indications and applications for the use of transthoracic
echocardiography in the critically ill.
3. Identify normal cardiac anatomy and list routine qualitative
and quantitative measurements.
4. Recognise sonographic signatures associated with valvular heart
disease, cardiomyopathies, coronary artery disease, pericardial
and pleural effusions.
5. Demonstrate a focused cardiac ultrasound exam under supervised
conditions.
